About us
As a Poet, Writer and Spoken Word Artist myself, I’ve noticed how scarce the space is when it comes to encouraging and platforming dual-heritage Desis. We’ve made progress, but we’re still not quite there yet.
Samajh My Gal was created to celebrate dual-heritage, South Asian creatives whose work reflects the cultures they carry with them. It highlights artists, writers and makers who present both sides of their identity in a thoughtful and authentic way.
The magazine stands for choosing both labels, embracing the reality of growing up between cultures and the creativity that comes from it. Through this space, I hope to encourage younger generations of dual-heritage, South Asians to feel proud of their identities and use their creativity to show the beauty of the diaspora.
This is for those who have felt like they don’t fully belong, for those who want to claim both sides of who they are and for anyone curious about the culture created in between.
I can’t wait to grow this initiative with you!
Lots of love,
Ayman — Creative Director & Founder .
